Kai earned his PhD from Shanghai Jiao Tong University under the supervision of Prof. Meifeng Tao, specializing in bacterial genetics and natural product genome mining and biosynthesis. After graduation, he worked as a research associate before joining Prof. Changsheng Zhang’s Lab at the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, as a postdoctoral researcher, where he trained in biochemistry and enzymology. In January 2025, Kai joined Mehta’s Lab.
